Hi Coaches and all: In 60 shot matches I am having the old numbness in the supporting hand trick which I do not really notice in Indoor shooting.
I seem to have a lot of pressure on the back of my hand from the sling/handstop combo. My Handstop is one of the Button type, quite small and very flat wondering whether I should be trying a deeper(Cotton reel style) one to reduce pressure on my hand.
I do not think my position is exceptionally low but is not high either.
What are you using-looking for ideas?

Hiya Martin, my partner was having the same problem and this was solved by using the handstop from Shooting Stuff made by Steve Petterson in AK. Also numbing may be caused by the sling stopping circulation to your hand.

You can look at Shooting Stuff.co.nz and check out the skp handstop. Its the ultimate in comfort, and you can have additional spacers made to lift the sling away from your hand if necessary as we did for Raewyne.I also machined the fixing holes into slots so as to allow the handstop to swivel slightly and to better fit her hand. It did the trick, and that was after trying three other very good handstops which were more expensive.

I'm getting the same thing Martin, only on 30 shots.
By the 4th diagram I can't wait to finish and probably rush them subconsciously.

I had to shorten my sling one notch to shoot outdoor as I reckon the targets were a little higher than indoor. I also have the cylindrical knurled stop about Ø28mm.

I'm thinking it may be the sling pressure on the back of my hand as Graeme just said.

I might have a go at making the handstop longer so the sling doesn't press against my hand.

The SKP one, Graeme, isn't a good picture and is hard to see how deep it is.... or even how it fits!?

Hiya Peter, where the sling button fits into the handstop I made a standoff to lift the sling away from back of Raewynes hand which relieved the pressure and thus the pain. standoff was abaut 15 mm, but I explained this to the guy who makes them and hes increased the height (distance) between the connection and the rifle.(hes made the handstop thicker where the sling attatches.)so theoretically this version shouldnt need the standoff. If anyone wants to have a look at Raewynes handstop setup, they are more than welcome. Cheers,G.

Ciao a tutti... ragazzi

in many years I have tried many types of handstop.
Centra Mec quite well, but even this does not solve the problem of pain in the hand.
I adopted a small expedient to relax hand and left elbow.
Construct a T-shaped holder using two small aluminum tubes( one of 8 / 10 cm. and one of 18/22 cm. ) and put rubber padding on the short side where to put the rifle.
Test with the rifle and cut the height of the support tube if it is too long.
I use it after every shot or after 5 shots....
I shot ...open the bolt.... put new cartridge ...put the T under the stock forward the trigger guard and support the weight and fall off stress on the hand and elbow.

Hi all,
I find my hand-numbness is from the circulation being cut due to sling pressure on the jacket cuff or glove cuff or both together crossing the back of the hand where the blood vessels are visible.
I try to position the sling to come around the arm lower down than it would naturally lie to relieve the pressure along with pulling down the sleeve of the jacket etc.

Hiya Ian, Firstly try increasing the distance between the rifle stock and the sling by packing or adding a standoff to the base of the handstop. This will relieve the pressure of the sling on the back of your hand. Some of the more expensive handstops will allow inserts to be added to increase this distance. One of the better ones is made by MEC.What type of handstop and sling are you using at the mo? *** Maybe the problem may be solved by just purchasing a glove that will give better relief to your hand.I would reccomend a kurt thune as it did the trick for me. They are quite ridgid and long enough to go inside the sleeve of your jacket. Also there are NO seams to pressure your hand where it meets the handstop between thumb and first finger. ask around and you may be able to try one as they are expensive to buy,and if its not going to solve the problem then you wont be out of pocket. Good luck, G.
